As part of the field training practice, first-year students of the Natural and Technogenic Risks educational program participated in an educational hiking trip from Medeu to the Gorelnik recreational complex. The main objective of the activity was to study the natural and anthropogenic features of the mountainous terrain and to reinforce theoretical knowledge through field observations.

During the hike, students examined the geomorphological characteristics of the foothill and mountain zones of the Trans-Ili Alatau. They studied major landforms, slope processes, erosion features, and the natural factors influencing landscape formation. Particular attention was paid to potential natural hazards such as mudflows, landslides, and slope erosion.

In addition to natural features, students analyzed anthropogenic elements of the area, including transportation and tourism infrastructure, engineering structures, recreational facilities, and measures aimed at reducing natural and technogenic risks. The participants gained practical experience in environmental observation, description, and assessment.

The hiking activity contributed to the development of field research skills, environmental awareness, and a deeper understanding of natural processes. Combining educational objectives with outdoor recreation enhanced students’ physical activity, teamwork, and overall engagement in the learning process.

The goals and objectives of the field practice were successfully achieved. The knowledge and skills acquired during the activity will support students in their further studies related to the assessment and management of natural and technogenic risks.
