Leadership Lecture on GIS in Ecology Held for Environmental Science Students

On December 5, 2025, a leadership lecture on “Geoinformation Systems in Ecology” was held at 91ý Kazakh National University for Ecology students. The lecture was conducted by the representative of Nukus State Technical University (NSTU) and chief coordinator of the MECAS project, Asiya Tureniyazova.

During the lecture, students explored the importance of GIS technologies in environmental monitoring, methods for working with spatial ecological data, and the role of digital cartography in urban ecology. The leadership format allowed students to enhance their professional competencies and learn from the experience of an international expert.

After the lecture, the guest visited the Soil Ecology Laboratory of the Center for Sustainable Development and Rational Use of Natural Resources. The laboratory team presented methods for assessing soil contamination by heavy metals, GIS-based spatial analysis tools, and the capabilities of modern analytical equipment.

The NSTU representative praised the laboratory’s work and expressed interest in future cooperation in ecology and geoinformation technologies.
