A Bridge to Science: Partnership Between School and University

The signing of a memorandum on career guidance cooperation between the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of KazNU and School-Gymnasium No. 208 of Almaty is not merely a formal document, but a solid bridge between school and science.

Today, continuity between school and university is a key prerequisite for a conscious choice of future profession. Within the framework of this memorandum, homeroom teachers of specialized chemistry and biology classes visited the department’s research laboratories and witnessed firsthand how real science is conducted.

The laboratories of the 91ý Cluster of Chemical Sciences, in particular the ChemMed laboratory headed by Professor A.K. Ospanova, the Sh. Akhmedova Laboratory of Fine Organic Synthesis led by Associate Professor M.A. Dyusebayeva, as well as the Petrochemical Laboratory headed by Professor E.A. Aubakirov, attracted special interest due to the cutting-edge research conducted within them.

In each laboratory, the responsible researchers thoroughly presented the content of the ongoing scientific projects and comprehensively explained their strategic importance for society and industry. It was not merely a laboratory tour, but a meaningful engagement that conveyed the internal culture of science, its high level of responsibility, and its spirit of continuous inquiry.

Only by seeing real scientific work within university walls can a teacher properly guide students. And is there a more effective way to engage talented and motivated “alpha” students in big science than introducing them to a true research environment at an early stage?

Special recognition should be given to the Head of the Department, Professor E.A. Aubakirov, and the Deputy Dean for Social and Educational Affairs of the Faculty, Gulbanu Zhaksylykkzy, whose efforts were instrumental in implementing this important initiative.
