An agreement has been reached with the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts

Chairman of the Board - Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev met with a delegation of the Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, a leading scientific research center in Armenia, headed by Director Araik Khzmalyan, at alFarabi Kazakh National University.

 

The meeting resulted in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, which defined the main directions of mutually beneficial partnership between the parties.

Thanking the guests for the visit, Zhanseit Tuimebayev elaborated on the achievements of the university, familiarized the honored guests with the scientific infrastructure and the plan for the 2nd stage of construction of the KazNU campus. Speaking about the prospects of cooperation with the Matenadaran, Zhanseit Tuimebayev highlighted specific areas of work of the faculties. According to the rector, the university is interested in obtaining information about medieval texts in Armenian translations, studying materials related to the diplomatic correspondence of the Mamluk sultans, and data on prominent scientists from Central Asia.

It was also suggested to consider the possibility of undergraduates completing a scientific internship at the Mesrop Mashtots Museum-Institute of Ancient Manuscripts and to organize online lectures and master classes on paleography, source studies and medieval history with the participation of leading scientists of the Matenadaran.

In turn, Araik Khzmalyan expressed readiness for deep integration of efforts. He noted that the Matenadaran, whose collection is included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, is ready to provide Kazakh colleagues with unique sources for joint research. "We see great potential in joining forces. Matenadaran is open to joint initiatives that will become a bridge for knowledge and technology transfer",- said the director of the Institute.

The meeting culminated in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation. The main provisions of the document include: exchange of visits by faculty and staff; implementation of academic mobility and student exchange programs; joint preparation of scientific publications and applications for grant financing of projects; exchange of information on practice bases and employment opportunities. At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that the agreements reached would give a powerful impetus to the development of dialogue between scientists from Kazakhstan and Armenia in the field of Oriental history and culture research.
