ON COOPERATION WITH THE STATE NATIONAL NATURAL PARK “ALTYN-EMEL”

On March 3, 2026, staff members of the Department of Zoology, Histology, and Cytology visited the State National Natural Park “Altyn-Emel” to establish scientific cooperation and expand practice-oriented training for students. This event is important not only for the development of academic collaboration but also in the context of implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the visit, representatives of the department became acquainted with the park’s activities, its scientific directions, the biodiversity monitoring system, and measures aimed at protecting rare and endangered animal species. Particular attention was paid to the conservation of populations of the kulan, argali, and other fauna inhabiting the park. In addition, issues related to the sustainable management of natural resources and the development of ecological tourism as one of the tools for harmonious interaction between humans and nature were discussed.

The event directly corresponds to SDG 4 “Quality Education”, as the signed memorandum of cooperation provides for the organization of field practices, internships, and joint scientific research. This creates conditions for improving the quality of training for future biologists and ecologists, developing their research competencies, and fostering an ecological worldview.

The visit also aligns with SDG 15 “Life on Land”, since the cooperation is aimed at studying and conserving biodiversity, conducting environmental monitoring, and developing scientifically grounded recommendations for the protection of natural complexes. The data obtained can be used to assess the state of ecosystems and to develop measures to reduce anthropogenic pressure.

In addition, activities within the park are related to SDG 13 “Climate Action”, as research on ecosystem dynamics makes it possible to assess the impact of climate change on the flora and fauna of the region. Scientific support for conservation activities contributes to the adaptation of natural areas to changing climatic conditions.

Finally, the signing of the memorandum reflects the principles of SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”, strengthening cooperation between the educational institution and the state environmental protection organization. Such collaboration ensures the integration of scientific potential, the exchange of experience, and the implementation of joint projects aimed at sustainable development and the preservation of Kazakhstan’s natural heritage.

Thus, the visit to the Altyn-Emel National Park became a significant step toward integrating educational, scientific, and environmental protection activities within the framework of the global sustainable development agenda.
