Visit of Shokan School Leadership to KazNU: Development of Student Research Projects

A meeting with the leadership of Shokan School was held at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences. The visit focused on the development of research projects for school students and the expansion of cooperation in scientific and educational activities.

During the visit, the school representatives were introduced to the research infrastructure of the faculty and the key scientific directions implemented at the university. The guests learned about the activities of the Scientific Center for Sustainable Development and Rational Nature Management, as well as the research conducted within the Kazakhstan-China Joint Laboratory “Remote Sensing Technology and Applications.” These research units carry out studies related to natural resource monitoring, environmental analysis, and the application of geospatial technologies and Earth remote sensing data.

Particular attention was given to opportunities for involving school students in scientific research activities. The participants discussed prospects for implementing joint research projects, organizing scientific seminars and educational programs for school students, as well as developing practice-oriented projects focused on studying natural processes, environmental challenges, and sustainable management of natural resources.

The representatives of the school showed strong interest in the application of modern scientific methods, including geographic information systems, satellite data analysis, and other digital technologies that can be used in student research projects. Early engagement of students in research activities contributes to the development of analytical skills, critical thinking, and increased interest in natural sciences.

Following the meeting, both sides expressed their interest in further developing cooperation aimed at supporting school students’ research initiatives and strengthening collaboration between the school and the university.

The visit was held within the framework of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 “Quality Education” and SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”.
