International Dialogue UNESCO «Futures Dialogue: AI and Culture»
On 18 March 2026, T.A. Bazarbayeva, Head of the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences, participated in the international expert dialogue «Futures Dialogue: AI and Culture», organized by UNESCO. The event was held online via Zoom and brought together representatives of the scientific and expert community from various countries. The meeting focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on the development of culture, creative industries, and cultural ecosystems. During the dialogue, international experts and heads of UNESCO Chairs discussed current challenges and opportunities related to the use of generative artificial intelligence in the cultural sector, as well as its influence on artistic creativity, cultural rights, and the economic conditions of cultural professionals.
Special attention was given to the preservation of cultural and linguistic diversity in the digital environment, expanding access to cultural heritage, and ensuring fair conditions for authors and cultural professionals amid digital transformation. The discussion is directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 «Quality Education», promoting digital literacy and educational initiatives, and SDG 11 «Sustainable Cities and Communities», supporting the preservation of cultural heritage and strengthening cultural ecosystems.
Participants included representatives of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN networks, permanent delegations to UNESCO, national commissions for UNESCO affairs, as well as international experts in culture, education, and digital technologies. Participation in such international dialogue platforms contributes to strengthening scientific cooperation, sharing best practices, and developing interdisciplinary research in sustainable development, culture, and modern technologies.
