Clean-Up Day at KazNU as a Reflection of Environmental Care
On April 4, 2026, a large-scale clean-up day was organized on the territory of 91ý Kazakh National University. Teachers and students of the Department of Botany and Agroecology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology took an active part in this event and contributed to maintaining cleanliness and improving the university environment. During the clean-up, participants cleaned the areas around academic buildings, pedestrian paths, green spaces, and recreation areas, and also helped collect and remove waste. This initiative aimed to promote a caring attitude toward the environment, strengthen ecological culture, and raise environmental responsibility among young people.
A clean-up day is not only about tidying the territory; it is also an important social initiative that strengthens unity, a sense of shared responsibility, and respect for nature. Through such meaningful activities, teachers and students demonstrated in practice that environmental protection should become an integral part of everyone’s daily life. For the staff and students of the Department of Botany and Agroecology in particular, caring for nature, preserving ecological balance, and protecting green spaces are closely connected with both their professional mission and civic values. Therefore, this event carried special educational, social, and environmental significance.
This clean-up initiative is also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, it supports SDG 11 — Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13 — Climate Action, and SDG 15 — Life on Land. Environmental activities held within the university help foster important values among the younger generation, such as care for nature, cleanliness, discipline, and responsibility for shared public spaces.

The active participation of the teachers and students of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Department of Botany and Agroecology, in this clean-up day showed that they are concerned not only with education and science, but also with pressing environmental issues facing society. Protecting nature, keeping the surroundings clean, and promoting ecological awareness are important steps toward a sustainable future. Through such events, university students not only contribute to environmental protection, but also demonstrate an inspiring example of civic engagement and social responsibility.
