University-wide Clean-Up Day: Contribution of the Faculty of Physics and Technology to the “Taza Kazakhstan” Initiativeю SDG 11 and SDG 12

On Saturday, April 4, a university-wide clean-up day was held at 91ý Kazakh National University, bringing together students, academic advisors, faculty members, heads of departments, and faculty leadership. Representatives of the Faculty of Physics and Technology actively participated in the event, including the Dean, heads of departments, academic advisors, and students, demonstrating a high level of engagement across all levels of the academic community and continuity of shared institutional values. The participation of faculty leadership alongside students served as a clear example of unity and collective responsibility for the development of the university environment.

As part of the clean-up initiative, participants carried out comprehensive cleaning of the assigned areas, including zones located between different faculties. Particular attention was given to interfaculty spaces, which require coordinated efforts and shared responsibility. Through the coordinated work of students and staff, all areas divided between faculties were thoroughly cleaned: household waste was collected, green spaces were restored, and pathways and adjacent areas were cleared. In addition, landscaping and minor improvement works were conducted to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the campus and create a more comfortable educational environment.

The event was held in an atmosphere of strong organization, mutual support, and teamwork. Participants demonstrated not only responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and improving the university environment but also a willingness to work collaboratively for the common good. Joint efforts contributed to strengthening corporate culture, fostering a sense of belonging to the university community, and promoting environmentally responsible thinking and careful attitudes toward nature. Particular emphasis was placed on cultivating values such as mutual assistance, respect for labor, and accountability for collective outcomes.

The clean-up day was organized within the framework of the national environmental initiative “Taza Kazakhstan,” aimed at enhancing environmental awareness, promoting responsible attitudes toward natural resources, and encouraging sustainable behavioral practices. The initiative also contributes to fostering environmental patriotism—an informed commitment to preserving the cleanliness and natural heritage of the country and making a personal contribution to environmental protection.

Universities, as key centers for knowledge generation and value formation, play a crucial role in advancing such initiatives. The involvement of students, faculty members, and administrative staff in environmental activities facilitates the development of practical skills related to responsible environmental behavior, promotes a culture of sustainability, and strengthens individual accountability for the condition of the surrounding environment. Such initiatives also enhance interfaculty collaboration and contribute to building a cohesive university community.

The clean-up day aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities” and SDG 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production.” It is aimed at fostering a culture of sustainable behavior, increasing environmental awareness, and strengthening environmental responsibility among students and staff. Thus, the university-wide clean-up day served not only as a significant contribution to campus improvement but also as an important element of educational and social development, promoting patriotism, environmental culture, and social responsibility among all participants in the academic process.
