Master’s students of the Department of Chemical Physics and Materials Science held an educational event within the framework of the SDG 16 “Peace, justice and effective institutions”

On March 31, 2026, within the framework of pedagogical practice, master’s students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at 91ý Kazakh National University – Arna Muratkyzy and Altyngul Sakhtasheva – conducted an open educational session for 3rd-year undergraduate students.

The topic of the event was: “Legal Culture as an Indicator of a Conscious Society” (SDG 16 “Peace, justice and effective institutions”)

The purpose of the event was to enhance students’ legal literacy, develop their legal awareness, strengthen respect for the law, and foster their civic responsibility.

During the event, the concept of legal culture was comprehensively explained. It was emphasized that legal culture is not only knowledge of laws but also respect for them, adherence to them, and the ability to apply them correctly in everyday life. It was also highlighted that a high level of legal culture is one of the key indicators of a civilized and developed society. Through illustrative examples, it was demonstrated that insufficient legal awareness leads to various legal violations and negatively affects society.

In the theoretical part, students were provided with detailed information about the main components of legal culture, including legal knowledge, legal consciousness, and legal behavior. Based on the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the fundamental rights and responsibilities of citizens were discussed, as well as their significance in society. In addition, the principles of equality before the law and legal responsibility were addressed.

Throughout the event, real-life examples were used to discuss types of legal violations and their consequences. Particular attention was paid to issues commonly encountered among young people, such as responsibility in social media, academic integrity, respect for intellectual property rights, and accountability before the law. These examples helped students gain a deeper understanding of the topic. The event continued in an interactive format: students were given situational tasks and asked to make decisions from a legal perspective. These activities contributed to the development of critical thinking and the ability to express and justify their opinions. During group work, students exchanged ideas and improved their practical skills in discussing legal issues.

In the practical part, students were divided into groups, where they defended their viewpoints and proposed legal solutions to given situations. This increased their engagement and interest in the topic and allowed them to effectively connect theoretical knowledge with practice. To reinforce the acquired knowledge, a quiz was conducted, during which students answered questions related to legal culture. The most active participants were recognized, demonstrating a high level of understanding.

At the end of the event, it was emphasized that the development of legal culture is an important responsibility of every citizen. Respect for the law, awareness of one’s rights, and responsible behavior are essential for building a conscious and progressive society.

Overall, the event was conducted at a high level and had a positive impact on enhancing students’ legal literacy, their understanding of their role in society, and the development of their civic responsibility.
