"Biotechnology and ecology: creating a sustainable future for Kazakhstan"

On April 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., a curatorial hour was held.: "Biotechnology and ecology: creating a sustainable future for Kazakhstan"

The purpose of the event: Formation of students' understanding of the role of biotechnologies in solving environmental problems in Kazakhstan and developing a sustainable future.

As part of the curatorial hour on the topic "Biotechnology and Ecology: creating a sustainable future of Kazakhstan", an event was held with 2nd-year students of the specialty "Biotechnology" aimed at forming ecological thinking and understanding the role of biotechnologies in solving urgent environmental problems.

The report was prepared by the 2nd year students of the specialty "Biotechnology"  Laakhunova Fatima, Akhmedova Amina, Kopytin Alexey, Birimzhanov Miras.

The students prepared a presentation. At the beginning of the report, information was provided on the environmental situation in Kazakhstan. It is noted that there is a high level of air pollution, a low percentage of waste recycling, as well as widespread processes of desertification and soil salinization. The problem of accumulation of radioactive waste is emphasized .

Next, the possibilities of biotechnologies in environmental purification are considered. Examples of the use of microorganisms for the decomposition of petroleum products, fungi for the removal of heavy metals and pesticides, as well as plants for cleaning soils and reservoirs are given.

The directions of application of biotechnologies in agriculture were also revealed, including the use of biological products, increasing yields and reducing harmful effects on the environment. Special attention is paid to biofuels as an alternative energy source and its environmental benefits.

In conclusion, the prospects for the development of biotechnologies in Kazakhstan, including government support and the introduction of environmentally sound technologies, were considered.

Following the results of the event, it was concluded that biotechnologies play an important role in solving environmental problems and the need to develop environmental awareness.

Suggested recommendations:

- Introduction of biotechnologies

- Improvement of ecological culture

- Support for scientific research

The curatorial hour was held in the form of a presentation with an active discussion.
