Supporting Young Economists: Scholarships within the International Farabi Forum
On April 7–8, 2026, at 91ý Kazakh National University, the Fifth International Scientific and Practical Conference on the Issues of Sustainable Economic Development in the Context of Global Changes was held as part of the International 91ý Forum. The discussion covered key areas that will shape the architecture of the future economy, such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 development processes, and the transformation of the financial sector.
In her opening remarks, G.R. Dauleeva, Head of the Department of Economics and Professor of Economic Sciences, emphasized the importance of integrating science, education, and business in the context of global transformations. In her speech, she particularly emphasized that supporting talented youth and developing human capital are key factors for sustainable economic growth and the country's competitiveness.
As part of the conference, entrepreneurs—Maksat Akhanovich Akhmetzhanov, PhD, CEO of Mercury Energy LLC, and Asel Nurlanovna Mukhametnurova, a private entrepreneur—launched an important social initiative aimed at supporting students.
At their initiative, 11 students from the Department of Economics studying on the “Economics” and “Digital Economy” educational programs were awarded named scholarships of 50,000 tenge. This support will further motivate students to enhance their academic potential and pursue their professional development and self-actualization.
The selection process took into account academic performance, scientific and public activities, as well as life circumstances requiring additional support. The competition generated great interest among students, demonstrating the relevance and importance of such initiatives. The transparency of the selection process allowed for identifying the most deserving candidates.
Such initiatives make a significant contribution to the university's development. They increase students' motivation for academic and scientific work, fostering a culture of academic integrity and a drive for professional growth. Furthermore, interaction with the business community strengthens the practical focus of educational programs, allowing for the integration of theoretical knowledge with real-world economic situations.
The establishment of a sustainable partnership between the university and entrepreneurs is of particular importance. This opens up new opportunities for developing joint projects, research, and educational initiatives, and contributes to preparing in-demand professionals in the context of digital transformation.
In the future, there are plans to further develop this initiative: increasing the number of scholarships, expanding the participant base, as well as introducing additional forms of support such as internships, mentorship programs, and student participation in practical projects. This will allow for the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem to support talented youth and enhance the business community's contribution to developing the nation's human capital.
