An educational event organized within the framework of SDG 1 “No Poverty”.
On April 8, 2026, second-year students from the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies at the Faculty of Philology, 91ý Kazakh National University, took part in an educational event focused on Sustainable Development Goal No. 1: No Poverty. The event was conducted under the supervision of lecturers S.V. Novikova, G.S. Suleimenova, and M.S. Rakhimova. This event played a key role in their learning process by helping them develop socio-economic thinking, improve analytical skills, and understand global issues facing the world today.
The main aim was to deepen students’ understanding of poverty - its nature, causes, scale, and ways to address it worldwide. The introduction provided an overview of the issue, highlighted the main factors affecting poverty levels, and stressed its importance on an international scale.
During the event, students gave presentations in foreign languages. The central theme was “Global practices in poverty reduction”, where they examined various countries’ efforts to reduce poverty. They focused on government strategies, socio-economic reforms, and actions aimed at improving living standards.
There was also a presentation called “From Extreme Poverty to Prosperity”, which outlined key government policies and effective tools for fighting poverty. These materials helped students gain a better grasp of sustainable development mechanisms and understand the government’s role in tackling social challenges.
The event sparked lively discussions among the students, offering a space to share ideas and debate different approaches to solving poverty. Participants showed strong preparation, demonstrated skills in working with foreign-language sources, and confidently presented their findings.
This event is part of the department’s curriculum designed to build both professional and cultural competencies. It broadened students’ perspectives, increased their interest in sustainable development issues, and highlighted the importance of global socio-economic processes.
