Academician Akhmetkal Medeu explained the evolution of nature
A landmark meeting for the student and scientific community was held at the al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
A well-known geographer, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Geography and Water Security Akhmetkal Rakhmetollauly Medeu delivered a lecture to the audience on the topic "Nature: stages of development".
The guest of honor was introduced to the audience by Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board, Vice–Rector for Research and Innovation. Opening the meeting, the Vice-rector emphasized the lecturer's exceptional contribution to Russian science. He noted that Akhmetkal Rakhmetollauly is a graduate of the Geography Faculty of KazNU and has worked his way up from an engineer to a laureate of two state prizes of the Republic of Kazakhstan. "Our guest is the author of more than 200 scientific papers and 24 monographs, the editor–in-chief of the National Atlas of Kazakhstan. His expertise in the field of mudflow safety and water resources is a national treasure",- Margulan Ibraimov emphasized.

"President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the most pressing problem in the world is climate change, depletion and pollution of water resources and entanglement processes. It is precisely these problems that the Institute of Geography and Water Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan is dealing with",- the scientist began his speech. - In the first part, I will tell you what the institute does, what scientific research it conducts, the second part will be devoted to my thoughts on how nature develops and the experience of its knowledge".

During the lecture, the academician spoke about the activities of the Institute of Geography and Water Safety, the history of its creation, structure, main research directions and significant projects implemented by the scientific institution. The main activities of the Institute are carried out in four blocks that are in demand from the state and society: assessment and forecast of water resources, assessment and forecast of natural hazards, assessment of natural resource potential, and atlas and WEB mapping.

Next, Akhmetkal Medeu presented a retrospective analysis of the interaction between humans and the environment, focused on the key stages of the formation of natural systems, emphasizing that modern geography is at the junction of fundamental knowledge and technological challenges. The scientist noted that today the issues of natural risk management and ensuring water security have become critically important for the national security of the country.

The lecture aroused great interest: the audience had the opportunity to ask questions about the problems of global climate change and sustainable water use in Kazakhstan.
