Space exploration

The teachers of the Department of Language and General Education training of foreigners see as their goal the creation of a favorable image of our country, our university, and our city of Almaty. By talking about Kazakhstan in general, about culture, traditions, achievements in various fields in particular, we interest foreign youth, arouse their curiosity about the country of study and the surrounding reality. This undoubtedly meets the requirements of SDG-4 and SDG-17.

The concept of cosmonautics is closely related to the land of Kazakhstan. This is certainly an important fact that should not be forgotten. Teachers of the Department of Language and General Education Training of Foreigners at the Faculty of Pre-University Education traditionally hold educational events with their students, where they talk about everything important related to the history of our country. During the curatorial hours dedicated to Cosmonautics Day, teachers tell students about the history of space exploration, why our territory was chosen to create the world's largest Baikonur spaceport (from Kazakh Baikonur — "rich valley"), and the most important milestones in the development of cosmonautics. It should be emphasized that young people are very interested in everything related to space travel! Here is some information provided to students at these events.

Kazakhstan is the birthplace of space flights. On April 12, 1961, at 09:07 a.m., a rocket carrying Yuri Gagarin was launched from test site No.5 (Baikonur) in the Kyzylorda region. The first stage of the launch vehicle fell on the territory of the Karaganda region. Astronauts returning from the International Space Station (ISS) on Russian Soyuz spacecraft are landing in the steppes of Kazakhstan. The landing of the lander most often takes place in the vicinity of the city of Zhezkazgan, Karaganda region, in the steppe zone of Kazakhstan. Special attention is paid to the achievements of Toktar Aubakirov, Talgat Musabayev and Aydin Aimbetov, who glorified the country.

Cosmonautics Day is celebrated in Kazakhstan annually on April 12, being a landmark date, since Yuri Gagarin launched from the Baikonur spaceport in 1961. This day symbolizes the republic's contribution to space exploration and is accompanied by festive events, excursions and honoring space industry workers.
