Bridge of Friendship and Melodies of Spring: Chinese New Year Celebrated at 91ý KazNU
A vibrant celebration of the Chinese New Year — the Spring Festival, symbolizing renewal, harmony, and hope — took place at 91ý Kazakh National University. The event was organized by the Confucius Institute at KazNU, which annually creates a unique platform for cultural dialogue and strengthening friendship between Kazakhstan and China.
The festive evening brought together students, faculty, and guests of the university in an atmosphere of mutual respect. The program was dynamic and captivating: a traditional lion dance, mesmerizing instrumental performances, vocal numbers, and theatrical scenes.
A particularly warm response came from the audience during the performance by Chinese students from the Faculty of Pre-University Education who are studying Russian at KazNU. Performing the legendary song “Katyusha” and the rock hit “Gruppa krovi”, they demonstrated not only excellent linguistic skills but also genuine interest in the musical heritage popular in our region. The hall rewarded their efforts with loud applause — a living symbol of mutual understanding, when music erases the boundaries between peoples.
Equally impressive were the performances by Kazakh students studying the Chinese language. They showcased a high level of preparation and true artistry, singing songs in Chinese that reflected both ancient traditions and the modern rhythm of the Middle Kingdom. The sound of the dombra added a special flavor to the celebration: traditional kyuis and folk melodies seamlessly blended into the evening’s program, emphasizing the role of Kazakh national culture as the welcoming and unifying side in this intercultural synthesis.
Guests actively participated in a quiz on the traditions and history of the festival, and the most knowledgeable received commemorative prizes. A festive lottery added extra excitement — lucky tickets and joyful smiles became the best decoration of the event.
The celebration at KazNU once again confirmed that the country’s leading university is not only a major educational center but also a place of genuine friendship. Such events strengthen international ties and open new horizons for cooperation. The Spring Festival filled everyone present with inspiration and confidence that the closeness of nations is built through mutual respect, creativity, and heartfelt communication.
