Information Meeting on the Topic “Financial Security and Fraud Prevention”

An informational and educational meeting titled “Financial Security and Fraud Prevention” was organized at the Department of Solid State Physics and Technology of New Materials within the Faculty of Physics and Technology at 91ý Kazakh National University. The event was attended by second-year students of the “Materials Science and Technology of New Materials” educational program. The meeting was held as a group-level discussion, allowing students to engage deeply with contemporary financial challenges.

The primary objective of the meeting was to enhance students’ financial literacy, prevent fraudulent activities in the digital space, and foster responsible financial behavior. Such initiatives constitute an important component of the department's educational and mentoring activities. They are aimed at developing students’ critical thinking, strengthening civic responsibility, and fostering resilience against destructive economic influences.

In the context of rapid expansion of information exchange, it is particularly important to equip young people with the ability to critically evaluate information, recognize potential risks, and make well-informed decisions. During the meeting, comprehensive information was provided on the essence of financial security, its key components, and personal data protection. Organizers emphasized that financial literacy is an essential life skill based on responsible and informed decision-making.

Particular attention was given to the social and legal risks associated with modern types of fraud. Participants discussed the potential consequences of poorly considered credit obligations, risks associated with suspicious investment schemes (financial pyramids), as well as phishing and social engineering methods. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the importance of critical thinking and careful risk assessment when making financial decisions.

The discussion also addressed the mechanisms of manipulation used by fraudsters in the digital environment. It was noted that such groups often operate by establishing trust-based relationships through various communication channels. Consequently, the importance of developing media literacy and the ability to analyze information sources was strongly emphasized to the students.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth). At the conclusion of the session, the importance of financial discipline, long-term planning, and personal responsibility was emphasized. The meeting became an important element of the faculty’s educational work, contributing to the development of students’ financial culture and equipping them with practical skills for independent economic life.
