April 15, 2026 – An important academic and educational event took place at the Department of Finance and Accounting. Baglan Muratovna Aliyeva, Candidate of Economic Sciences and Senior Lecturer, together with proactive Master's students of the "7M04127-Finance" specialty, Elmira Kadyrsyzova and Aset Duisenbay, organized and conducted an open curatorial hour. The session was titled: "The 95th Anniversary of the Birth of Umirbek Aryslanuly Joldasbekov and Kazakhstan Science Day (April 12)."

Goals and Educational Significance

The primary goal of this curatorial hour was to form a deep sense of respect among students for domestic science and the rich scientific heritage of Kazakhstan. The organizers aimed to highlight the lives of outstanding scientists who laid the foundation for the country's modern education system.

The specific objectives of the session were structured as follows:

To provide a comprehensive overview of the life, academic path, and groundbreaking scientific activities of Umirbek Joldasbekov.

To explain the historical and social significance of Kazakhstan Science Day.

To foster patriotism by showcasing the global impact of Kazakhstani researchers.

To analyze the vital role of scientific innovation in the strategic development of the state.

The event was not merely a history lesson but a strategic initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 4 (Quality Education): By promoting the legacy of great educators, the session encouraged students to pursue academic excellence.

The Phenomenon of Umirbek Joldasbekov (1931–1999)

A significant portion of the lecture was dedicated to the biography of Umirbek Joldasbekov. He was a towering figure in Kazakh science—an Academician, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and a world-renowned specialist in the mechanics of machines and mechanisms.

In 1970, Joldasbekov was appointed Rector of the Kazakh State University (now 91ý KazNU). At that time, the university required a modern vision. Over his 16-year tenure, he performed a "scientific miracle," transforming the institution into one of the top research centers in the entire Soviet Union. He was the architect of "KazGUgrad," the iconic university campus. This period is historically referred to as the "Joldasbekov Era," characterized by a massive leap in research quality and infrastructure. Born in the Zhambyl region, his journey from a curious student to a statesman serves as an inspiration for the younger generation.

Kazakhstan Science Day and Kanysh Satpayev

The curators also explained why April 12 is celebrated as Science Day in Kazakhstan. This date marks the birthday of Kanysh Satpayev, the legendary geologist and the first President of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. The students discussed how Satpayev’s discovery of copper deposits and Joldasbekov’s theories in mechanics represent the diverse strength of the nation’s intellectual history.

Interactive Learning and Conclusion

To ensure active participation, the organizers used modern educational tools. A Kahoot quiz was conducted, testing the students' knowledge of the facts presented. The discussion was lively, with students reflecting on how they can contribute to modern science.

The concluding message was clear: science is a demanding path requiring labor, responsibility, and an unquenchable thirst for truth. By honoring the 95th anniversary of Joldasbekov, the participants reaffirmed that the future of Kazakhstan depends on the integration of education, tradition, and innovative research.
