Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a republican round table on the topic "Policy of preserving historical and cultural heritage in the context of independence values: domestic and international experience", dedicated to the Day of Protection of Monuments and Historical Sites.

The event was organized by the Department of Archeology, Ethnology and Museology, the Scientific Research Institute of Archeology and Anthropology, as well as the Scientific Research Center of Museology and Monument Science of KazNU.

During the round table, key issues of preservation and effective management of historical and cultural heritage were considered. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the protection and use of objects of historical and cultural heritage", as well as the development of interdisciplinary research in archaeology. The participants discussed modern scientific fields, including paleoanthropology, archaeometallurgy, archaeozoology, archaeobotany, the use of geographic information systems (GIS) and artificial intelligence technologies. Topical issues of conservation, restoration and scientific reconstruction of archaeological sites were also discussed.

The round table was attended by leading scientists from the Margulan Institute of Archaeology, the Scientific Research Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Scientific Research Center for Museology and Monument Science, as well as representatives of museums in Almaty. The meeting was aimed at expanding international scientific cooperation in the field of studying, preserving and popularizing the archaeological heritage.

It is worth noting that the International Day for the Protection of Monuments and Historical Sites is celebrated annually on April 18 and was established in 1983 by the International Council for the Conservation of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) at UNESCO. Its main goal is to draw the attention of the world community to the issues of preserving historical and cultural heritage as an essential component of the identity and memory of mankind.

In Kazakhstan, this date is traditionally marked by events for the improvement of cultural heritage sites, open days in museums and scientific institutions, as well as educational lectures and meetings dedicated to the significance of historical monuments.
