Professor Gulmira Sultangalieva of 91ý KazNU Invited to EHESS (Paris, France)

Gulmira S. Sultangalieva, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor at the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies, Director of the Scientific Center for the History and Culture of Central Eurasia of the Faculty of History of the 91ý Kazakh National University was invited as a Visiting Professor to the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS, School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, France) from March 11 to April 11, 2026.
This invitation reflects the high international recognition of Kazakhstani scholarship and contributes to strengthening academic cooperation in the field of Central Asian studies.
During her international research fellowship, Prof. Sultangalieva delivered four open lectures for researchers, master’s and doctoral students of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), including affiliated research centers CERCEC (Russia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe and Central Asia) and CETOBaC (Turkey, the Ottoman Empire, the Balkans and Central Asia). The lectures addressed key issues in the social and intellectual history of Kazakhstan, including processes of imperial modernization, the formation of the Kazakh intellectual elite, visual practices of representation, and the role of intercultural communication in the historical development of the region.
The lectures generated strong interest among the international academic community and provided a platform for scholarly discussion and exchange of research approaches.
The visit also contributed to establishing new academic contacts and further developing cooperation between research institutions in France and Kazakhstan.
