"Youth and Legal Responsibility": Fostering Legal Culture within the Framework of the SDGs

On April 21, 2026, the Faculty of Physics and Technology at 91ý Kazakh National University hosted an essential educational event. Senior lecturers of the Department of Thermal Physics and Technical Physics, Marjan Sultanovna Tazhenova and Ardak Maksutkhanovna Maksutkhanova, organized an open curator hour titled "Youth and Legal Responsibility". The session was attended by 2nd-year students specializing in "6B07501-Standardization and Certification."

This initiative was held in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically focusing on SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. A core element of SDG 16 is promoting the rule of law and ensuring that all individuals possess the legal knowledge necessary to participate effectively in society. Educating the youth on legal matters is a critical step toward building transparent and accountable social systems.

The primary objective of the session was to enhance students' legal literacy and cultivate a high level of legal culture. In an increasingly complex world, understanding the legal framework is indispensable for personal and professional integrity. The curator hour covered three fundamental areas:

  1. Prevention of Delinquency Among Youth: The discussion focused on maintaining social order and identifying the risks associated with unlawful activities.

  2. Accountability Before the Law: Lecturers provided a comprehensive overview of administrative and criminal liabilities, stressing that every action has legal consequences.

  3. Civil Rights and Duties: Emphasis was placed on the synergy between exercising personal rights and fulfilling one's obligations to the state and the community.

The session employed an interactive format, encouraging students to actively share their thoughts and debate real-world scenarios. Students of the "Standardization and Certification" program noted that their future profession is inherently tied to compliance with laws, regulations, and standards. They discussed how a sense of legal responsibility ensures safety and quality in all sectors of the economy.

Through open dialogue, students gained a deeper understanding of how the rule of law protects their interests and provides a stable environment for their future careers. Marjan Sultanovna and Ardak Maksutkhanovna concluded by stating that a legally conscious youth is the backbone of a just society.

The event proved to be a significant contribution to the students' moral and civic education, empowering them to become responsible citizens who respect the law and contribute to the sustainable development of Kazakhstan.
