"A Spiritually Rich Person is the Pillar of Society"
On April 25, 2025, the Department of Cybersecurity and Cryptology organized a cultural theater visit as part of the spiritual and educational program titled "A Spiritually Rich Person is the Pillar of Society." This event was incorporated into the department's educational plan as an essential component of nurturing well-rounded, intellectually and morally developed professionals.
The primary objective of the event was to instill in future specialists not only strong technical and professional skills but also high moral values, cultural awareness, aesthetic sensibility, and broad humanitarian thinking. In the modern world, particularly in the fields of information technology and cybersecurity, professionals are expected to demonstrate not just technical expertise, but also the capacity for ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and socially responsible decision-making. A specialist who is developed only in technical terms risks losing the ability to empathize, reflect on consequences, and make sound moral judgments — qualities that are increasingly vital in an age where technology shapes every aspect of human life.
About the Theater and the Performance
The Gabit Musrepov State Academic Theater is one of Kazakhstan's most prestigious and historically significant cultural institutions. Named after the celebrated Kazakh writer and playwright Gabit Musrepov, whose literary legacy has profoundly influenced the development of Kazakh national culture, the theater has consistently maintained a high artistic standard throughout its history. Its repertoire successfully blends works by Kazakh authors with masterpieces of world classical drama, making it a central hub of cultural life in Astana.
Students had the privilege of watching William Shakespeare's immortal tragedy Hamlet — widely regarded as one of the greatest literary works ever written. In this play, Shakespeare explores with remarkable depth and psychological insight the themes of betrayal and loyalty, the pursuit of truth and justice, moral ambiguity, revenge, and the weight of individual responsibility. Prince Hamlet, upon learning of his father's murder, is thrust into a profound moral struggle against corruption and evil, embodying humanity's eternal battle between conscience and action. The play raises questions that remain deeply relevant across centuries and cultures, resonating powerfully with young audiences today.
Course of the Event
The event followed a carefully planned program. In the days preceding the theater visit, faculty members of the department conducted a brief preparatory session in which students were introduced to the history of the Gabit Musrepov Theater, a short biography of William Shakespeare, and an overview of the thematic and ideological content of Hamlet. This preparation enabled students to engage with the performance on a deeper intellectual and emotional level, allowing them to appreciate the nuances of the staging and the complexity of the characters.
During the performance, students had the opportunity to observe the craft of professional acting, the artistry of stage design, lighting and sound engineering, and the director's creative vision in bringing Shakespeare's text to life. Following the conclusion of the performance, the department organized a structured discussion session. Students shared their personal impressions and reflections, debated the moral choices of the characters, and explored the ethical dilemmas presented in the play. The discussion was lively, thoughtful, and highly engaging, demonstrating the students' genuine interest and active participation in the cultural experience.
Conclusions
The theater visit made a meaningful and lasting contribution to the spiritual and cultural development of the participating students. Young people gained direct, firsthand experience of classical performing arts, significantly enriching their aesthetic appreciation, moral awareness, and humanistic outlook. The guiding theme of the event, "A Spiritually Rich Person is the Pillar of Society," was vividly embodied through the universal human experiences and values explored in Shakespeare's Hamlet. The Department of Cybersecurity and Cryptology is committed to continuing and expanding the practice of organizing such cultural and educational events on a regular basis, as the harmonious integration of professional technical training with spiritual and moral development remains a fundamental principle of preparing graduates who are not only competent but also thoughtful, ethical, and socially responsible members of society.
