KazNU Students Strengthen Cultural Ties Between Kazakhstan and China
On April 25, 2026, the Alatau Creative Hub in Almaty hosted a landmark cultural and educational event titled "Kazakhstan and China: Convergence of Cultures on the Silk Road." This event served as a vivid example of implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). A pivotal role in the organization and implementation of the program was played by the students and faculty of the Department of Language and General Education Preparation for Foreigners within the Faculty of Pre-university Education at 91ý Kazakh National University. Working alongside the "Laoshi" Education Center, the "Belt and Road" Research and Education Center, and the Alatau Creative Hub, the department demonstrated the importance of inclusive education and intercultural dialogue as the foundation for peaceful coexistence.
The event, which gathered youth from both nations, was attended by distinguished guests, including Ms. Huang Xiaomin, Consul for Education at the Consulate General of the PRC in Almaty; Tatyana Kaukenova, Director of the "Laoshi" Center; Bakhyt Aitbayeva, Head of the Department of Language Preparation for Foreigners at KazNU; and Nurat Ilyas, Director of the "Belt and Road" Center. In their remarks, they emphasized that the students of the Pre-university Faculty are becoming today’s "cultural ambassadors," fostering closer ties between the two nations. The opening ceremony featured a video highlighting centuries of friendship along the Silk Road, followed by performances from young talents. As part of a multilingual concert, students from the Department of Language and General Education Preparation for Foreigners, together with their Chinese peers, presented unique vocal and dance performances in Kazakh, Russian, and Chinese, showcasing cultural heritage through traditional musical instruments.
The celebration continued with interactive zones and workshops where participants applied their language skills in practice, engaging in activities such as calligraphy, fan painting, and learning about Kazakh national ornaments and jewelry. Tastings of traditional dishes and photo sessions in national costumes allowed guests to immerse themselves in the spirit of good-neighborliness. For the students of the Pre-university Faculty, participating in such a large-scale event was not only an educational milestone but also a vital platform for establishing personal contacts and laying the groundwork for future professional collaboration. The organizers expressed confidence that such initiatives directly contribute to strengthening humanitarian ties and fostering sustainable partnerships, playing a key role in developing mutual understanding between the future leaders of Kazakhstan and China.
