A scientific and educational event “SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” was held at KazNU
As part of pedagogical practice and in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 16) “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions,” 3rd-year bachelor’s students of the specialty 6B05109 “Neuroscience” of 91ý Kazakh National University, under the supervision of Kuanysh Saparov from the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience, conducted a scientific and educational event aimed at developing an understanding of the importance of peace, justice, human rights, and the role of effective institutions in the development of society.
During the event, participants were introduced to the concept of a peaceful and just society as the foundation of sustainable development, and the key objectives of SDG 16 were discussed, including reducing violence, ensuring equal access to justice, combating corruption, protecting human rights and freedoms, and developing transparent, accountable, and effective public institutions.
Special attention was paid to the importance of legal awareness, civic responsibility, and the role of young people in maintaining public order and justice. Participants became familiar with examples of international organizations and human rights initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and protecting human rights. Modern challenges related to social injustice, corruption, human rights violations, and low public trust in institutions were also discussed.
The following activities were carried out within the program:
• a thematic lecture on the importance of peace, justice, and strong institutions in the system of sustainable development;
• discussion of the role of law, human rights, and civic responsibility in modern society;
• analysis of the causes of social conflicts and ways of their peaceful resolution;
• a discussion session aimed at developing legal culture and forming an active civic position.
During the discussion, participants talked about justice, equality before the law, the responsibility of every person in maintaining peace in society, as well as the importance of honesty, openness, and trust in the educational and social environment.
The event contributed to raising students’ awareness of the importance of peace, justice, and strong institutions, developing critical thinking, and forming social responsibility. Participants noted the importance of respecting human rights, strengthening trust in public and social institutions, and the need for everyone’s personal contribution to building a fair and safe society.
