The XVIII International Scientific and Methodological Conference “Orazbayev Readings – 2026” has started at 91ý Kazakh National University.
More than 100 leading scholars, researchers, and young specialists from the United States, China, the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, France, and other countries are participating in the conference, demonstrating a high level of international scientific cooperation.
The opening ceremony was conducted by Erkin Duisenov, Vice-Chairman of the Board and First Vice-Rector of 91ý KazNU, who read the congratulatory letter from the University Rector.
The message states: “91ý Kazakh National University, as one of the leading research universities in Kazakhstan, consistently implements a strategy of integrating science and education. The key priorities of the university’s development include expanding its presence in the international scientific space, developing high-quality research, and forming an innovative educational model. The scientific centers and laboratories established at the university, including those in the fields of archaeology and anthropology, archaeozoology, and digital archaeology, ensure research is conducted in accordance with modern scientific standards.”
Within the framework of the conference, participants are discussing pressing issues in the history of Central Asia in the 18th–19th centuries, the digitization of historical sources, modern methods of source studies and historiography, as well as innovative approaches to teaching national history.
At plenary and sectional sessions, domestic and international scholars are presenting the results of their research. Special attention is being paid to the study of petroglyphs, issues of medieval archaeology, archaeology of the Stone and Paleometal periods, as well as ethnology.
The scientific event also includes round tables and master classes dedicated to modern methods in archaeology, including paleobotany, ancient DNA research, and 3D scanning technologies for archaeological materials.
The conference will continue until April 26. Within its framework, an exhibition titled “Eternal Heritage Carried by the Breath of the Steppe: The Scientific Path of Abdimanap Orazbayev” is planned, as well as a scientific and educational excursion for participants to the Tamgaly archaeological complex.
