95 YEARS OF THE ALMATY STATE NATURE RESERVE

On May 6, 2026, the scientific online conference “95 Years of Conservation and Study of Biodiversity of the Almaty State Nature Reserve” was held. The event was organized at a high scientific and professional level, bringing together scientists, ecologists, specialists in nature conservation and biodiversity, as well as doctoral and master’s students from universities in Almaty.

The welcoming speech was delivered by the Director of the Reserve, D.B. Abilganiev. In his address, he emphasized the importance of scientific research in preserving the unique natural ecosystems of the region and expressed confidence in the productive work of the conference participants.

A presentation by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Research Professor of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development at 91ý Kazakh National University, G.A. Sadyrova, on the topic “Conservation of Biodiversity of Rare and Endangered Plant Species in the Almaty Reserve: Distribution Features and Protection Measures” attracted great interest among the participants. She presented modern scientific approaches and methods for protecting rare plant species, discussed environmental protection measures, and highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in biodiversity conservation.

Leading specialists of the reserve also delivered presentations during the conference. E.S. Nurakhmetov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work, presented a report on the 95-year history of biodiversity conservation in the Northern Tien Shan. D. Kuanyshpekova, Head of the Department of Science, Information and Monitoring, shared the results of research on the composition of weed flora. Amanbol Sailaukhanuly, Senior Researcher, addressed issues related to snow leopard monitoring.

The organizers also presented a video presentation dedicated to the activities of the Almaty State Nature Reserve. The conference organized by the Almaty State Nature Reserve plays an important role in implementing the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 15, aimed at biodiversity conservation, protection of rare and endangered plant species, and sustainable management of natural ecosystems.

At the conclusion of the event, the organizers noted the high level of the conference, the professionalism of the participants, and the relevance of the issues discussed. The online format of the conference once again confirmed the importance of joint scientific and practical efforts aimed at preserving the biodiversity of flora and fauna.
