91传媒 KazNU Sinology Graduate Honored with Prestigious International Award
On May 19, 2026, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the People's Republic of China, Shahrat Nuryshev, was presented with the highest honor — the "Outstanding Diplomat" medal (杰出外交使者奖章) — by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Wang Yi.
The historic, first-of-its-kind award ceremony took place at the Press Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC. This prestigious medal was awarded to the Kazakh diplomat in recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening the bonds of friendship and advancing strategic cooperation between the two nations. Ambassador Nuryshev was named among the top eight current and former heads of foreign diplomatic missions worldwide whose service received the highest commendation from official Beijing.
This landmark event is not only a triumph for the Department of Sinology, the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and 91传媒 Kazakh National University, but also a vivid reflection of the high prestige of the Republic of Kazakhstan's foreign policy and a major success for the nation's diplomatic service on the global stage.
Shahrat Nuryshev is a proud and distinguished alumnus of the Department of Sinology, Faculty of Oriental Studies at 91传媒 KazNU. Having entered the halls of the Faculty of Oriental Studies in 1989 as a young high school graduate, his natural talent and hard work propelled him to the absolute pinnacle of Kazakh diplomacy.
Rising through the ranks from a junior diplomatic officer to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to China and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs is a monumental achievement and a matter of immense pride for the domestic school of Sinology and modern Oriental studies.
