Faculty of Physics and Technology Hosts Visiting Scholar from Mexico
As part of its efforts to strengthen international scientific cooperation and enhance the quality of education, the Faculty of Physics and Technology of 91ý Kazakh National University hosted Professor Hernando Quevedo, PhD, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, Mexico), from March 20 to April 24, 2026.
The visit was organized within the framework of the “Foreign Scientist” program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The primary objective of the program is to promote collaboration between Kazakhstani universities and leading international research centers, foster joint scientific research, and support the professional development of young researchers.
During his stay, Professor Hernando Quevedo held a series of meetings with faculty members, researchers, master's students, and doctoral candidates. He delivered lectures on contemporary topics in physics and participated in scientific seminars and discussions. His presentations attracted significant interest from students and young scientists, providing valuable insights into current developments in modern physics and stimulating academic exchange.
In addition, Professor Quevedo provided консультаtion and academic guidance to master's and doctoral students on various aspects of scientific research, including research methodology, publication of papers in international peer-reviewed journals, preparation of research proposals, and academic career development. Young researchers had the opportunity to discuss their projects directly with an internationally recognized expert and receive professional feedback on their work.
The visit also served as a platform for discussing potential areas of joint research between the Faculty of Physics and Technology and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Particular attention was given to future collaborative projects, joint publications in high-impact scientific journals, participation in international grant programs, and the expansion of academic mobility initiatives.
The Faculty of Physics and Technology places great importance on international cooperation as a key factor in advancing education and research. The involvement of distinguished foreign scholars contributes to the improvement of academic programs, strengthens research capacity, and enhances the international reputation of the university.
Professor Hernando Quevedo’s visit made a significant contribution to the development of the faculty’s research activities, the expansion of international partnerships, and the professional growth of students and young scientists.
Furthermore, Professor Quevedo actively participated in the Summer Edition of the Nuclear Skills School (NSS), jointly organized by the Faculty of Physics and Technology and the Harbin Institute of Technology (China). Within the framework of the summer school, a series of lectures, scientific discussions, and academic meetings were conducted for undergraduate students, master’s students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers. Participants gained valuable knowledge about recent advances in nuclear science and technology, international research collaboration, and academic development opportunities. Professor Quevedo’s lectures significantly enriched the educational program of the school and inspired participants to pursue further scientific research and international cooperation.
