4th International Olympiad in Electrochemical Material Science

On November 19, 2024, the 4th International Olympiad in Electrochemical Material Science was held. The event was organized and sponsored by the "Laboratory of Electrochemical Production Technologies" and the Department of Analytical, colloid chemistry and technology of rare elements of 91ý Kazakh National University. The event was conducted within the framework of SDG 4 - Quality Education (4.3.2. Public Events: Lifelong Learning). 

The Olympiad was held in an online format (practical). Team representatives set up cameras in their laboratories to allow the jury to observe participants' work processes directly. Participants were required to submit a printed electronic report in English on the tasks performed within three hours of the Olympiad's conclusion. The submitted reports were thoroughly reviewed and evaluated by the jury committee. Representatives from various countries participated as organizers and jury members: 

1) PhD, Fyodor Malchik – 91ý KazNU, Kazakhstan; 

2) Dr. Netanel Shpigel – Ariel University, Israel; 

3) PhD, Xuexue Pan – South China Normal University, China; 

4) Prof. Thierry Jenizian – Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne, France; 

5) Doctoral student Yaroslav Zhigalenok – 91ý KazNU, Kazakhstan; 

6) Doctoral student Saken Abdimomyn – 91ý KazNU, Kazakhstan. 

The prize fund of the Olympiad was €1,500, sponsored by the "Laboratory of Electrochemical Production Technologies." 

Seventeen teams from 13 universities in 8 countries participated in the Olympiad. On November 21, the award ceremony and task review were held. 

The winners of the Olympiad were: 

1) Ionic incompetence – TU Delft, Netherlands; 

2) Charged Champions – Graz University of Technology, Austria; 

3) Mandleria – Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.
