A Regular Open Lecture on “Chagatai Language and Written Monuments” within the Framework of SDG 4

On February 5, 2026, a regular open lecture on the topic “Chagatai Language and Written Monuments” was held at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was jointly organized by the Research Center “Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage” of 91ý Kazakh National University, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Source Studies Center “Heritage of Oriental Manuscripts” of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, and the Association of Manuscript Scholars.

The open lecture entitled “Text Analysis in the Chagatai Language – 1” was delivered by Professor Zubaida Shadkam, Director of the Research Center “Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage”.

During the lecture, Professor Z. Shadkam presented a comprehensive scholarly analysis of a Chagatai-language manuscript related to Sultan Üpi. The linguistic features of the manuscript, its textual structure, historical and cultural significance, as well as its value as spiritual heritage were examined in detail.

The lecture aimed to promote the study of ancient written monuments and to introduce Chagatai-language heritage into academic circulation. The event was attended by researchers, young scholars, master’s students, and participants interested in the history of language.

The event was held within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 – Quality Education) and was aimed at enhancing the quality of education. In addition, the open lecture was organized as part of the research project BR28712621 “Manuscript Heritage of Kazakhstan: Registration, Restoration, Scientific Cataloguing, Digitization, and Comprehensive Codicological Research.”

It should be noted that open lectures are regularly held every Thursday at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
