Rector met with representatives of the World Health Organization
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted an official meeting between Chairman of the Board – Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev and a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) headed by WHO representative in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dr. Skender Syla.
Welcoming the guests, the Rector expressed gratitude for the visit and stressed the strategic importance of developing a partnership with WHO. The head of the University presented to the delegation the key areas of the university's scientific and educational activities, within which fundamental and applied research is actively developing. Special attention was paid to the Faculty of Medicine and Public Health, founded in 2015. Today, the faculty has more than 4,000 students, including over 1,800 international students from 39 countries.

It was noted that the faculty's teaching staff consists of 288 people (401.67 full-time staff), 25 teachers are graduates of foreign universities, and about 80% of subjects are taught in English. The University annually invites visiting professors and actively develops academic mobility.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the experience of cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the participation of faculty teachers and researchers in scientific and clinical research, the results of which have been published in leading international journals.
The development of digital technologies in medicine was also highlighted. In 2025, the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine was established on the basis of KazNU, which implements projects to introduce innovative solutions into the healthcare system in cooperation with foreign universities and technology companies.

During the negotiations, Zhanseit Tuimebayev took the initiative to expand cooperation with WHO in a number of strategic areas. In particular, the rector proposed to develop joint projects aimed at improving models of primary health care, increasing the availability and quality of medical services, training and retraining of personnel, as well as to consider the possibility of creating a center for promoting the principles of universal health coverage on the basis of KazNU, etc.

In turn, Dr. Skender Syla thanked the university administration for the warm welcome and noted the high potential of KazNU in the field of medical education and research.
