Preliminary defense of Muratbek Kudaibergenov doctoral thesis within the framework of SDG-11, SDG-13 and SDG-15
On March 11, 2026, at 10:00, an extended meeting of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics was held at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of the 91ý Kazakh National University. Within the framework of the meeting, a pre-defense of the doctoral dissertation of Muratbek Kudaybergenov , a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the educational program “6D071100 – Geodesy”, was conducted.

Dissertation title:
“Geodetic substantiation of geoecological zoning of territories according to the degree of hazard of gravitational processes.”
The research contributes to achieving the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, aimed at improving territorial safety and reducing risks of natural processes;
SDG 13 – Climate Action, in terms of assessing and monitoring hazardous natural processes and their impact on territorial development;
SDG 15 – Life on Land, including rational use of land resources and prevention of degradation of natural landscapes.
The topic of the dissertation research also corresponds to the strategic documents of spatial and regional development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including:
The Forecast Scheme of Territorial and Spatial Development of the Country until 2030, which provides scientific justification for sustainable and safe territorial development;
The Concept of Regional Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2025–2030, aimed at strengthening regional sustainability, rational use of natural resources, and reducing risks of hazardous natural processes.

The dissertation was carried out at the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics, Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of the 91ý Kazakh National University.
Scientific supervision of the dissertation was provided by:
– domestic scientific consultant – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor H. Kassymkanova;
– foreign scientific consultant – Professor Samuel B. Mukasa, State University of New York (USA).
The reviewers of the dissertation were:
– Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor T. Pentaev, Professor of the Department of Land Resources and Cadastre at Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (Almaty, Kazakhstan);
– Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor E. Oryngozhin, Professor of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics at 91ý Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan).
During the meeting, the applicant presented the main results of the dissertation research and substantiated the relevance of the topic, scientific novelty, as well as the theoretical and practical significance of the work. The main provisions and conclusions of the dissertation, along with the results of the conducted research, were presented.
Following the presentation, the opinions of the reviewers and scientific consultants were heard. During the discussion, participants of the meeting asked questions, which were answered in detail by the applicant. The relevance of the research topic, the scientific novelty of the obtained results, and their practical significance for the development of geodetic and geoecological studies were noted.
Based on the discussion, the extended meeting of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics recommended the dissertation of Muratbek Kudaybergenov for further submission for the defense of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the educational program “6D071100 – Geodesy.”
