Presentation of the book of the Korean language in Kazakh took place at KazNU
The Faculty of Oriental Studies of al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a solemn presentation of a book of the Korean language in Kazakh, developed as part of an international project, as well as the Korea Foundation scholarship award ceremony. The event was attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty, Ha Tae Uk, Director of the Korea Foundation representative office in Moscow, Yi Somyung, Professor of the Hanguk Jin John Ras Cyber University of Foreign Languages, as well as the university's leadership and Korean scholars.
Opening the solemn event, Vice-rector for Research and Innovation Margulan Ibraimov noted the university's success in international cooperation and stressed the strategic importance of the field of Korean studies. Today, KazNU has a high interest in learning the Korean language, and the growing number of students studying in Kazakh departments is increasing the demand for high-quality teaching materials in their native language. In order to meet this need, a large-scale project was initiated in 2025 with the support of the Korean Foundation and a partnership was established with the Hanguk Cyber University of Foreign Languages.
The experienced faculty staff took an active part in the development of the four-stage edition of the textbook of the Korean language in Kazakh. In particular, the elementary-level textbooks were translated by J.Zhakhanova, T.Pak, B.Kydyrbayev, A.Belyalova, and the intermediate-level editions were prepared by Z.Serikbayeva, N.Khamitova, A.Sailaukenova and M.Begalieva. The scientific and methodological expertise of the textbooks was conducted by J.Satkenova and A.Abagan. The Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Myrzakhan Egamberdiev, emphasized that this publication is the first comprehensive textbook in Kazakhstan designed for systematic teaching of the Korean language in Kazakh.
During the event, in addition to the official presentation of the textbook, special scholarships were awarded to undergraduates and doctoral students within the framework of the Korea Foundation program. This support is aimed at deepening the research of young scientists in the field of Korean studies and strengthening academic ties between the two countries. According to the organizers, this project will make a significant contribution to increasing educational resources in the Kazakh language and bring the science of Korean studies in Kazakhstan to a new level.
