Environmental Event on the topic: “Green Campus” in Dormitory No. 17 within the Framework of SDG 13 “Climate Action”
On March 3, 2026, an educational meeting was held in Student Dormitory No. 17 of 91ý Kazakh National University as part of Sustainable Development Goal 13 – “Climate Action.” The event was organized by Indira Azimbayeva, curator of the educational program 6B02303 – “Foreign Philology (Western Languages).”
Students of this program took part in the meeting, during which issues related to the development of environmental awareness within the “Green Campus” initiative were discussed.
During the meeting, students exchanged opinions on the challenges of climate change and its global and regional consequences. Special attention was given to discussing the following questions: “Is climate change a global threat or a manageable process?” and “What are the socio-economic consequences of climate change in Kazakhstan?”.
Participants also discussed current environmental issues in the city of Almaty, including air quality deterioration, glacier melting, and the reduction of water resources.
Within the framework of the “Green Campus” initiative, students proposed several practical measures aimed at developing environmental culture on the university campus. In particular, the following initiatives were suggested:
-organizing tree and flower planting campaigns;
-promoting a culture of waste separation and recycling;
-launching a “Plastic-Free Day” challenge;
-encouraging responsible use of energy and water resources.
In the practical part of the meeting, students prepared a small terminological project titled “Climate Change Vocabulary Glossary.” Within this project, they systematized key climate-related terms in English, Kazakh, and Russian. This activity contributed to the development of professional competencies of future translators and improved their skills in using environmental terminology and conducting multilingual academic communication.
During their presentations and discussions, students emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility and noted that protecting the environment is the duty of every individual.
At the end of the meeting, participants expressed their willingness to apply the knowledge they had gained in their daily lives and to promote environmental awareness in their communities.
The event became an important step toward increasing environmental awareness among young people, fostering the values of sustainable development, and preserving nature for future generations.
