Informative tour to the A. Kasteyev National Museum of Arts
On March 20, 2026, third-year students of educational program “6B02303 – Foreign Philology (Western Languages)” at the Faculty of Philology of 91ý Kazakh National University visited Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts. The visit was organized under the guidance of senior lecturers of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies, Elmira Bekturova and Indira Azimbayeva, within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

The primary objective of the visit was to enhance students’ cultural and aesthetic awareness, foster respect for national heritage, and promote their intellectual and spiritual development.
The Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts is recognized as an architectural monument of national significance and serves as a leading research, cultural, and educational institution in the field of fine arts in Kazakhstan. The museum’s collection comprises over 22,500 unique exhibits, including works of painting, graphic art, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts representing Kazakhstan, Russia, Europe, the Americas, and the East.
During the visit, students explored traditional Kazakh decorative and applied arts. Particular attention was drawn to syrmak carpets, tekemets, tuskiiz wall hangings, elements of traditional bridal dowry, yurt furnishings, as well as silver ornaments and jewelry. In addition, works by Abylkhan Kasteyev, along with pieces by Kazakh, Russian, and European artists of the 18th–19th centuries, significantly enriched the students’ understanding of artistic heritage.
The museum exhibition provided valuable insights for future philologists, particularly in terms of interpreting cultural codes, understanding national identity, and developing skills in literary analysis. The professional guidance of museum staff further contributed to shaping students’ aesthetic appreciation and reinforcing their respect for cultural heritage.
The visit made a meaningful contribution to the students’ personal and academic development and supported the formation of globally minded specialists capable of appreciating and preserving national cultural values.
