Future Dentists Discuss the Importance of Safe Water
On March 30, 2026, an educational event dedicated to World Water Day was held at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Care of 91ý Kazakh National University, at the Department of Fundamental Medicine. The event was organized in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal No. 6, “Clean Water and Sanitation,” which aims to ensure universal and equitable access to safe drinking water, improve sanitation, and promote the sustainable management of water resources.
The event was conducted by Kulzhebayeva Sabina Renatovna with second-year students of groups 24-01 and 24-02 of the Dentistry program, including both Russian- and English-medium groups. The session was designed as an interactive discussion, allowing students to actively engage with the topic and share their perspectives. During the discussion, participants explored current environmental challenges, including water pollution, scarcity of freshwater resources, and the consequences of inefficient water usage.
Special attention was given to both global and regional aspects of water-related issues, including the impact of climate change and human activities on water ecosystems. Students discussed how industrial waste, agricultural runoff, and urbanization contribute to water contamination and affect public health.
In addition, modern approaches to solving these problems were considered, such as the implementation of water-saving technologies, development of advanced water purification systems, and increasing environmental awareness among the population. A key focus of the event was the role of healthcare professionals in promoting sanitary and hygienic practices. It was emphasized that medical workers play a crucial role in preventing waterborne diseases, including gastrointestinal infections, hepatitis A, and other infectious conditions.
Students also analyzed case studies related to outbreaks of waterborne diseases and discussed preventive strategies and public health measures. The participants demonstrated a high level of preparedness, critical thinking, and strong interest in the topic. They actively participated in discussions, asked questions, and proposed practical solutions.
As a result of the event, students concluded that ensuring access to safe drinking water and promoting responsible use of water resources are essential factors in maintaining public health and achieving sustainable development. Such educational activities contribute to the development of environmental awareness and professional responsibility among future healthcare specialists.
