SCIENTIFIC AND ACADEMIC MEETING AT THE FACULTY OF ORIENTAL STUDIES WITH THE SOAS DELEGATION

On April 1, 2026, a scientific and academic meeting with a delegation from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of 91ý Kazakh National University in the Muhammad Ali Jinnah Lecture Hall. The delegation was led by Professor Bhavna Dave.

The event was organized within the framework of an educational visit (Study Tour) conducted by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London). According to the program, participants are visiting the cities of Almaty and Bishkek with the aim of familiarizing themselves with regional studies of Central Asia.

The purpose of the event was to promote international academic cooperation, facilitate the exchange of scholarly experience, and discuss prospects for joint research. The meeting brought together faculty members, doctoral candidates, and master’s students, during which key issues of academic interaction were addressed.

At the academic meeting, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, M.Sh. Egamberdiev, presented the faculty’s structure, educational programs, research areas, and achievements. Professor B. Dave emphasized the academic and educational significance of the visit.

As part of the program, a roundtable discussion was organized with the participation of doctoral students of the faculty and students of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London). The discussion focused on issues related to the history and culture of Kazakhstan, as well as Central Asian studies.

In addition, Research Professor L.Yerekesheva delivered an open lecture in English entitled “In Search of Identity: Archaeology as Knowledge Construction and Nation-Building.” The event included discussions on the role of archaeology in education and the study of national identity, with participants exchanging academic views.

Cooperation between the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) and 91ý Kazakh National University is carried out within the framework of a memorandum signed in 2023 and is aimed at developing sustainable forms of academic interaction.

Following the event, the delegation of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) expressed gratitude to the host institution for the high level of organization. The parties emphasized the substantive nature of the discussions and confirmed their mutual interest in further developing joint research projects, academic mobility, and institutional cooperation.
