The Role of Contemporary Art in the Formation of Students’ Cultural Awareness

On March 28, 2026, second-year students of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies, Faculty of Philology at Farabi Kazakh National University, visited a museum of contemporary art as part of SDG 4 “Quality Education.” This event became an important component of the educational process, contributing to the development of students’ creative thinking, aesthetic perception, and cultural awareness, which are essential elements of quality education.

The main purpose of the visit was to familiarize students with current trends in contemporary art, as well as to reflect on relevant social and cultural issues presented in the exhibitions. The students explored works by contemporary artists who, through various forms and styles, convey ideas related to identity, globalization, the inner world of an individual, and the interaction between society and the individual.

The museum exhibitions sparked strong interest among the students and encouraged them to reflect on the role of art in modern society. The displayed works were distinguished by their diversity of artistic solutions and innovative approaches to form and content, allowing students to view familiar concepts from new perspectives and broaden their understanding of the possibilities of visual language.

The visit contributed to the development of analytical thinking, interpretation skills of artistic images, and critical perception of information. Students not only became acquainted with contemporary art but also had the opportunity to discuss their impressions, exchange opinions, and form their own viewpoints.

This event is part of the department’s program aimed at improving the quality of education through engaging students with the contemporary cultural environment. It contributed to broadening students’ horizons and developing professional competencies essential for their future careers in the field of philology and translation studies.
