Excursion Lesson in the Botanical Garden: “The Structure of the Flower”
On April 4, 2026, an important educational and cognitive event was organized in line with the Sustainable Development Goals at the Department of Botany and Agroecology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of 91ý Kazakh National University. In particular, an excursion lesson on the topic “The Structure of the Flower” was held in the Botanical Garden. The main purpose of this event was to combine students’ theoretical knowledge with practical learning, introduce them to the structure of plant organs in a natural environment, and foster the ecological worldview of future specialists. The excursion lesson was organized by Tastanbekova Assem Arysbekovna, a lecturer of the Department of Botany and Agroecology. Students of group 24-03 took part in the event.
During the excursion, students became thoroughly acquainted with the main parts of a flower, their functions, and their importance in the reproductive processes of plants. Throughout the lesson, the characteristics of such floral organs as the perianth, calyx, corolla, stamen, and pistil were explained using specific plant samples. Observation in natural conditions enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the knowledge acquired in the classroom, to compare, analyze, and correctly describe botanical objects. The main value of such lessons lies in developing students’ observation skills, scientific thinking, and their ability to identify natural objects at a professional level.

This excursion lesson is also closely connected with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, the event corresponds to SDG 4 – Quality Education, since students were provided with high-quality practice-oriented learning. In addition, the content of the lesson is aligned with SDG 15 – Life on Land, as students explored the diversity of the plant world and gained a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving natural ecosystems. Such educational activities help instill in the younger generation a sense of responsibility toward the environment, the value of biodiversity conservation, and a culture of scientific appreciation of nature.

The excursion lesson held in the Botanical Garden not only increased students’ interest in the subject, but also strengthened their future professional orientation. Practical classes conducted in a natural environment are one of the most effective ways to improve the quality of education. Such events organized by the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology and the Department of Botany and Agroecology serve as an important tool for strengthening students’ theoretical preparation and introducing them to science, research activity, and nature conservation. The active participation of the students of group 24-03 showed that the lesson was meaningful and productive. This initiative became a vivid example of an educational process that harmoniously combines learning, воспитание, ecological awareness, and scientific understanding.
