On April 8, 2026, at 17:00, the teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology, together with first-year students of the Russian and Kazakh departments, students of the Turkmen department of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, second-year students of KazGASA, as well as master’s students of University of Bonn (Bonn, Germany), held an online round table via the Zoom platform on the topic “Sustainable Cities and Communities: Tourism-Related Challenges” within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 11: “Ensuring open, safe, resilient, and environmentally Sustainable Cities and Communities.”

The purpose of the event was to discuss current issues related to the development of tourism in modern cities, as well as to find sustainable solutions to improve the quality of life of local communities.

The moderator of the event was Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages, F.M. Mukazhanova, who presented brief information on the key objectives of the round table. During the discussion, key issues were addressed, such as excessive tourist pressure on cities, increasing waste and environmental pollution, strain on infrastructure and transport systems, and the impact of tourism on local populations.

Students delivered presentations in English, demonstrating a high level of preparation, critical thinking, and proficiency in international terminology. Presentations were given by first-year students Amanbay Assyl (Hydrology), Alua Dzhamalova (Tourism), first-year Master’s student of the University of Bonn (Germany) Tuleeva Azhar (English Literature and Culture), and Aitbai Yelnur (Accounting and Audit). Active participation was also shown by first-year student Lavrenov Rodion (Tourism) and second-year KazGASA student Dzhengisheva Nuriya (Architecture).

Participants proposed a number of practical solutions, including the development of sustainable (eco-friendly) tourism, implementation of digital technologies for managing tourist flows, increasing environmental awareness among tourists, and supporting local communities and small businesses.

The round table became an effective platform for exchanging experience and strengthening international cooperation. The organizers note that such events contribute to the development of global thinking among students and foster responsibility for sustainable urban development.

Active student participants were awarded certificates. We congratulate all participants, wish them to stay active and invite them to take part in future events!
