Future pharmacists discussed the rational use of medicines.
At the Department of Fundamental Medicine of the 91ý Kazakh National University, a curatorial session was held within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Goal 3 – “Good Health and Well-being.” The topic of the event was: “The Role of the Pharmacist in Ensuring the Rational Use of Medicines.” The event was attended by 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students of the Pharmacy educational program.
The purpose of the session was to expand students’ knowledge on the rational use of medicines, enhance the professional responsibility of pharmacists, and explain their role in maintaining public health. During the event, the principles of proper selection, dosage, storage, and use of medicines were comprehensively discussed.
In addition, key responsibilities of pharmacists were addressed, including patient counseling, explaining side effects and drug interactions, and preventing self-medication. Special attention was given to the consequences of improper antibiotic use and the issue of antimicrobial resistance.
The event was conducted in an interactive format. Participants actively engaged in group discussions, exchanged opinions, asked questions, and completed practical tasks. This contributed to the development of their critical thinking and professional skills.
At the end of the session, feedback was collected, and students shared their impressions. Participants noted the relevance and usefulness of the event and emphasized the importance of the knowledge gained for their future professional activities.
In conclusion, this session was aimed at enhancing students’ professional competencies in line with SDG 3 and highlighting the importance of high-quality pharmaceutical care.
