The Faculty of Oriental Studies Hosted the Second Round of the International Public Speaking Competition with International University Participation
On April 8, 2026, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at 91ý Kazakh National University hosted the second round of the International Public Speaking Competition, jointly organized with Mordovia State National Research University named after N.P. Ogarev. The event was organized by Saparbayeva N.B. and Babenkova E.A.
The competition brought together 8 higher education institutions from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. These included 91ý Kazakh National University (Kazakhstan), Mordovia State University named after N.P. Ogarev (Russia), National Research University “Higher School of Economics” (Russia), Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus), University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan, Suleyman Demirel University (Kazakhstan), Caspian University (Kazakhstan), and Ablai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages (Kazakhstan). A total of 64 students participated in the competition.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by N. Kairanbayev, Deputy Dean for International Relations and Scientific-Innovative Activities of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, as well as representatives of partner universities: S.I. Piskunova (Mordovia State University, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor), E.A. Kolesnikova (Higher School of Economics, Director of the School of Foreign Languages), V.S. Drobysh (Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, Lecturer at the Department of Translation and Intercultural Communication), and D. Mubarokova (University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages).
The aim of the competition was to identify talented participants and enhance public speaking skills in foreign languages as an important means of students’ self-realization and social adaptation.
In the course of achieving this goal, special attention was paid to developing students’ communicative competence, mastering the fundamentals of rhetoric, and improving public speaking skills through the effective use of verbal and non-verbal communication tools. Emphasis was also placed on fostering creative thinking, developing the ability to find non-standard solutions, increasing students’ social and creative activity, and strengthening international cooperation while identifying highly skilled and talented students.
The competition was held at a high organizational and academic level, once again confirming students’ strong interest in public speaking, intercultural communication, and in-depth foreign language learning.
