A chess tournament within the framework of the Student Sports League has started at the Farabi Hub innovation site of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The intellectual competition is attended by university student teams from all over Kazakhstan.

The large-scale event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.

The competitions are held in accordance with international standards in the rapid chess format. Chief Judge Sergey Kim emphasized the importance of such competitions in promoting student sports: "Chess is not only an intellectual rivalry, but also an indispensable tool for developing discipline and strategic decision–making skills. Such tournaments give students an excellent opportunity to show their abilities, gain professional experience and hone their skills",- he said.

According to the organizers, the goals of the tournament are not limited to sports results. The competitions are aimed at developing students' analytical thinking, operational decision-making skills in stressful situations, as well as strengthening the culture of fair play and respect for the opponent.

The student chess games will last until April 14th. Following the results of the competition, the best teams and players will be awarded special awards and will receive permits to participate in the national-level stages.
