Fear of Failure and the Pursuit of Success: The Secret of Student Motivation
On October 28, 2025, the Department of General and Applied Psychology organized an offline event titled “Fear of Failure and the Pursuit of Success: The Secret of Student Motivation” as part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event was held in Room 305 of the Faculty of Medicine and organized by PhD, Acting Associate Professor Borbasova G. N., together with second-year Dentistry students.
The aim of the event was to enhance students’ intrinsic motivation, provide a scientific understanding of the fear of failure, and transform it into a resource for personal development, as well as to foster a constructive attitude toward challenges.
During the event, the psychological nature of fear was analyzed. It was emphasized that fear is not only a negative emotional state but also a regulatory mechanism that can stimulate action, decision-making, and goal achievement. Theoretical concepts were supported by practical examples.
The event was conducted in an interactive format. Participants analyzed real-life scenarios using “fear” and “motivation” frameworks, which contributed to the development of critical thinking and psychological interpretation skills. Group discussions highlighted the role of failure as a developmental and experiential factor.
A short theatrical performance titled “Two Paths: Fear and Motivation” illustrated the internal psychological conflict, deepening participants’ understanding of the topic.
In the final part, a psychological game “Risk or Safe Path” was conducted to develop decision-making strategies. The “Letters to the Heart” activity helped create a supportive emotional environment among participants.
In the closing remarks, Borbasova G. N. emphasized the constructive role of fear in personal growth and achievement. Overall, the event contributed to increased student engagement, reflective thinking, and communication skills.
