On April 15, 2026, at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of 91ý Kazakh National University, within the framework of pedagogical practice, first-year Master’s student of the “Zoology” educational program, Shugula Amanqyzy Sairanova, under the supervision of Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Aizhan Seitkanovna Akmullaeva, conducted an open seminar for first-year undergraduate students in the course “Methodology of Scientific Research.” The content of the seminar covered the topics of direct and indirect citation, technical requirements for referencing, compiling a bibliography, and the use of other scientific works. The event was organized within the framework of implementing Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the United Nations - “Quality Education.”The main objective of the seminar was to develop students’ culture of working with scientific texts, explain the principles of academic integrity, and enhance their skills in the proper use of information. In modern higher education, scientific literacy, as well as the ability to analyze and correctly present information, is of particular importance. During the seminar, the Master’s student provided a detailed explanation of the features of direct and indirect citation and demonstrated their application in scientific writing through specific examples. In addition, the rules for referencing according to international standards, methods of compiling a bibliography, and the basic principles of formatting scientific sources were discussed. These competencies enable students to conduct high-quality research work. Throughout the seminar, students worked with various scientific materials and practically developed skills in correct citation, reference formatting, and compiling a list of sources. Issues such as plagiarism prevention, respect for authors’ rights, and adherence to academic ethics were also thoroughly discussed. Special attention was given to improving the quality of knowledge, developing critical thinking, and fostering lifelong learning skills. In today’s information society, the ability to select reliable sources, analyze them, and apply them appropriately is one of the key competencies for future professionals. For this purpose, interactive tasks and discussions were organized, which increased student engagement.

In conclusion, this open seminar was aimed at improving students’ academic writing skills, developing their ability to work with scientific information, and increasing their motivation to obtain quality education. The event contributed to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 and positively influenced the quality of the educational process. Moreover, such seminars help to develop essential skills required for students’ future professional and scientific careers.
