Quality Education Through Practice: A Research Paper Writing Session

On April 17, 2026, at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the 91ý Kazakh National University, 1st–year undergraduate student of the Zoology program Rakhmonalieva Zamira Zafarjonovna conducted an open seminar for the 11th-12th group of the 1st-year bachelor's degree program "6B05102-Biology" in the discipline "Methodology of Scientific Research" under the guidance of Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Akmullayeva Aizhan Seitkanovna.

The event focused on the 4th Goal of Sustainable Development - "Quality education". The topic of the lesson was: "Features of thesis preparation, requirements for the design and publication of scientific articles, principles of using scientific sources."

The lesson examined the content and structure of abstracts, their difference from full-length scientific papers, as well as the key stages of article preparation. These stages included the formulation of research goals and objectives, the design and submission of the publication. During the open lesson, the master's student explained the main differences in writing and structure between theses and scientific articles, focusing on their goals, scope, logic of presentation, and design requirements. This allowed students to clearly distinguish between these types of scientific papers and take a more conscious approach to their preparation. Attention was paid to academic writing, correct citation, and ethical use of scientific sources. The students became acquainted with the requirements for designing and publishing scientific articles, including the structure of the work, annotation design, keyword selection, and a list of references. They also discussed in detail the principles of selection and use of scientific sources, their critical assessment, and proper implementation in their own research. Special attention was paid to the observance of academic integrity standards, the prevention of plagiarism, and the observance of copyrights when writing scientific papers. During the discussion, the students developed the skills of analysis, generalization, and independent scientific thinking. The lesson was conducted using interactive teaching methods, including practical assignments, case analysis, and participation in discussions, which contributed to the active learning of students.

In conclusion, it is important to note that during the open seminar, students not only studied theory but also applied their knowledge in practice. They had the opportunity to independently prepare abstracts on topics of interest. This allowed them to improve their skills in working with scientific literature, organize the material correctly, and follow the rules for the design of scientific papers. As a result, education has become more effective, which corresponds to one of the development goals — to provide high-quality education.
