THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MIGRATION PROCESSES IN EURASIA AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 10 AND 17 BROUGHT TOGETHER SCIENTISTS FROM DIFFERENT REGIONS OF THE WORLD
On April 17–18, 2026, the International scientific and practical conference “Modern migration processes in Eurasia: trends and challenges” was held at the Faculty of International Relations of 91ý Kazakh National University.
This event brought together academic experts, practitioners and representatives of government structures who discussed a wide range of issues related to migration processes in Eurasia in the context of the transformation of modern international relations and their consequences in the regional and global context. Scientists from Armenia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Portugal, Finland, Russia, Uzbekistan, Japan and Kazakhstan became part of a multilateral dialogue and over the course of two days not only discussed current migration issues in Eurasia, but also actively proposed new approaches and solutions.
In her opening speech, Head of the Department of International Relations and World Economy, Gulnara Baikushikova, noted the importance of studying migration processes in the conditions of turbulence in modern international relations, as well as the scope and diversification of migration, which today has not only a forced and economic character, but is also associated with water, environmental and other issues.
Welcoming speeches were also delivered by:
-Advisor to the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Almaty – Anar Dutbaeva;
-Head of the Representative Office of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Assel Nazarbetova;
-Deputy Director of the Eurasian Research Institute at the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, Almaty, Zhengizkhan Zhanaltay.
The opening presentation was delivered by Leila Delovarova, PhD in International Relations, Acting Professor of the Department of International Relations and World Economy, 91ý KazNU, the main organizer of this event.
The conference work took place over two days and covered a wide range of issues, and included the following aspects: migration, security and sustainable development in Eurasia, the role of compatriots and diaspora in changed socio-economic and political realities, educational migration, labor migration, remittances, talent migration and artificial intelligence, environmental migration, demographic development: trends, depopulation and the experience of leading countries of Eurasia.

Summing up the results of the first day, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Professor Zhuldyz Sairambaeva noted the importance of the conference topic, the role of international legal aspects in regulating migration in Eurasia and the high involvement of the participants. She also noted the importance of developing relevant recommendations and new approaches to assessing and solving the problems of modern migration.
The second day of the conference was marked by a round table on the topic: “International migration processes and new trends: consequences for Eurasia”.

Within the framework of the conference, the connection with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations — SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) — was noted for achieving common goals. The event was held in a hybrid format.
Within the framework of the conference, recommendations were developed for the creation and development of scientific and educational infrastructure in Eurasia through the creation of a special fund following the example of a consortium. The main functions of the fund should include coordination of educational migration and talent migration, development and support of migration research and projects. It was also noted the need to develop new approaches to understanding key challenges related to international and internal migration using artificial intelligence and involving young scientists.
The conference was held with the support of the student activists of the Regional Resource Center for Information Support about the UN at the Faculty of International Relations.
