SDG-13: Giving Waste a Second Life: A Blend of Ecology and Creativity
A special environmentally oriented and creative event dedicated to giving waste a second life was organized at the Faculty of Pre-University Education of 91ý Kazakh National University. The main goal of the event was to promote environmental awareness while developing the creative abilities of participants.
Today, the volume of waste around the world is increasing year by year. Therefore, recycling and transforming waste into useful and practical items is a shared responsibility. Giving new life to unnecessary items is not only an effective way to protect the environment but also an opportunity to develop creative thinking and craftsmanship skills.
During the event, participants demonstrated their imagination by creating unique items from various materials. For instance, old bottles and glass jars were transformed into elegant flower vases, decorative lamps, and interior design elements. They were painted and decorated in modern styles, adding originality and a fresh touch to home interiors.
In addition, it was shown that ordinary cardboard boxes can also be given a second life. Participants turned them into storage boxes, children's toys, and creative art pieces. When such activities are carried out with children, they help foster environmental awareness and encourage creativity.
Old clothes were also given a new purpose. Through recycling, they were transformed into stylish bags, decorative cushions, and even redesigned clothing items. This approach not only reduces waste but also allows people to create unique handmade products.
Furthermore, ways of utilizing food waste were discussed, along with approaches to minimizing their negative impact on the environment.
Giving waste a second life is not only an environmental responsibility. It is also an engaging process that fosters creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation. Each of us can contribute to improving the world around us by recycling unnecessary items and caring for nature.
