Scientific Cooperation Opportunities Discussed on the Basis of a Supercomputer

During the state visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the People’s Republic of China on September 11, 2019, an intergovernmental agreement was signed to deliver a supercomputer to Kazakhstan. Later, following high-level negotiations held on July 3, 2024, during the visit of the President of the PRC, Xi Jinping, to Kazakhstan, a decision was made for Qingdao Aucma Import & Export Co. to supply the supercomputer to 91ý Kazakh National University.

Currently, the supercomputer has been fully commissioned at the university and is being actively used for scientific research as one of the most powerful computing systems in Central Asia.

In this regard, representatives of the Almaty Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, as well as specialists from the LLP “National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research,” visited 91ý Kazakh National University to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of the supercomputer. During the meeting, the technical specifications of the high-performance computing system, its applications in scientific computations, and its role in modeling and forecasting natural and technogenic hazards were presented.

As a result of the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for developing scientific cooperation, data exchange, and the implementation of joint projects in the field of monitoring and early warning of emergency situations.
