Open Advisor Hour: "Harmonious Kazakhstan" within the Framework of UN SDG №16 "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions"
On April 22, 2026, as part of their pedagogical practice, first-year master's students of the "7M05119-Reproductive Genetics" educational program, Akbota Izbassarova and Anel Yerdimurat conducted an open advisor hour titled "Harmonious Kazakhstan" for Serbayeva A.D. group - third-year students of the EP "6B05103-Biotechnology". This session served as a prominent example of the practical implementation of UN SDG №16 "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions," which promotes stability in society, interethnic harmony, and mutual respect, as well as the creation of a peaceful and inclusive society for sustainable development. The organizers emphasized the formation of a culture of tolerance and peace among students by integrating history and universal human values.
During the session, students deepened their knowledge about the contribution of more than 130 ethnic groups living in peace and harmony under one shanyrak to the development of the country. A specific focus was placed on historical justice: it was noted how various ethnic groups arrived in our country, including some through historical migration and others due to political reasons during deportation (the forced resettlement of Koreans in 1937, Germans in 1941, and Chechens in 1944). The fact that in those difficult times the Kazakh people embraced many ethnic groups and provided them with tremendous support was discussed as an outstanding example of humanism, peace, and mutual assistance. It was emphasized that the common values uniting the representatives of various ethnic groups living in Kazakhstan are friendship, respect, and unity.
Particular attention in the context of SDG №16 was given to the interactive format of the lesson, aimed at demonstrating inclusivity and equality in society. Students were divided into 4 groups and completed a group task studying the history of the Korean, German, Uyghur, and Chechen diasporas. In the interactive block, participants identified and marked on the map of Kazakhstan the time of arrival, reasons, and main areas of settlement of each ethnic group. In addition, they analyzed in detail their cultural centers and contributions to the country's economy, agriculture, science, and culture, defending specially prepared posters. This further proved that each ethnic group is a full and equal member of our country.
Based on the event's results, it can be concluded that the established goals were successfully achieved. The lesson made a significant contribution to the students' deep understanding of the values of peace, harmony, and interethnic respect. The event fully aligns with the goals and objectives of UN SDG №16 "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions," supporting the education of active citizens of a just and peaceful society who value stability and contribute to the preservation of interethnic harmony.
